Which materials are commonly used to manufacture Flexible Films and Pouches, and how do they affect performance?
Several polymers and combinations of materials are used to manufacture Flexible Films and Pouches depending on the intended application. Polyethylene (PE) is widely used because of its flexibility, toughness, and good moisture resistance. Polypropylene (PP) provides good clarity, stiffness, and heat resistance for suitable applications. Polyester (PET) is often used as an outer layer in laminated structures because of its strength, dimensional stability, and printability. Other barrier materials may be incorporated when higher protection against oxygen, moisture, light, or aroma is required. Multi-layer films combine the properties of different materials to achieve the desired balance of strength, sealing performance, flexibility, appearance, and barrier protection.
