How does Rockshield Mesh handle the pressure of rocky backfill?
When a trench is filled with rocky material, the weight of the earth exerts constant downward and lateral pressure on the pipe. Rockshield Mesh is manufactured with a specific thickness and density to act as a cushion, effectively "padding" the pipe against these rocky inclusions. The mesh structure is designed to deform slightly under extreme loads to absorb energy, but it is tough enough to prevent sharp edges from penetrating through to the pipe surface. This sacrificial layer is essential in areas where screening backfill for small particles is too expensive or logistically impossible, allowing for the use of "as-found" rocky soil.
