An HDPE Dimple Drainage Board is made from a polymer material that is generally resistant to water, but that does not mean the complete drainage installation is automatically waterproof. This distinction is important because the board and a waterproofing membrane perform different functions in a building protection system.
The primary role of a dimple drainage board is to create a space through which water can move toward an outlet. Its raised structure forms drainage channels, helping manage water that reaches the drainage layer. Depending on the design, a geotextile filter may be included to reduce the entry of soil particles. These features support water management, but they do not necessarily stop water from passing through joints, edges, or other parts of the building assembly.
Waterproofing materials, by contrast, are selected to resist water penetration through a wall, slab, or foundation. They may include liquid-applied membranes, sheet membranes, or other systems appropriate for the construction project. The exact solution depends on water pressure, substrate conditions, construction details, and relevant building requirements.
